Hello, my name is Faye Jackson and I’m the Council Executive Assistant for the Chippewas of Kettle & Stony Point First Nation. I work for the Chief and First Nation Council by managing the agenda for Council regular and special meetings, compiling all the information that is required for the agenda and ensuring agenda packages are delivered and on time in preparation for the meetings. Recording and storing minute and Band Council Resolution books is one of the important tasks I am responsible for, ensuring that the books are always up dated and in order. I also, when required, schedule travel and accommodations for Council members and submit their expense requisitions for attending meetings.
The First Nation is in the process of purchasing a new digital photocopier this year, wherein all the computers will be hooked up and can photocopy and scan documents to it right from their desktops. With Council agendas on-line via laptops in the Council Chambers, this equipment will produce significant time savings in preparing the agenda packages.
Once approved, I am also responsible for forwarding all the Contribution Agreements and Band Council Resolutions to the appropriate agency and/or departments. Developing the monthly newsletter is a task that I have taken on and enjoy seeing the completed final copy. Program services depend on it to get their information out to the community and community members like to receive up to date information and news. A copy is posted to our website at www.kettlepoint.org where it can be viewed on line and in color.
The 2004/06 Council term saw a number of new changes: golf course purchase, industrial park development, Land Management Code Development project, Community Constitution Development Code project, new policies and bylaws, the closure of the Ipperwash Public Inquiry, the construction start of the Assisted Living Complex, the transition of Child and Family Services to the regional initiative Mnaasaged Child and Family Services, among other advancements and developments. All these initiatives will be reported on by the departments who had the honor of participating in these initiatives.
I also lend a hand in other areas of the Administration wherever I am needed.
Faye Jackson
Council Executive Assistant.
