Project Overview
Community members will be the voice of the project, both through involvement on the committee established to oversee the project, and through extensive community consultation, which will include general community meetings, focus group consultations with the Elders, Youth, Women, etc., questionnaires, dedicated website consultation tools, mail- outs, etc.
 
It is envisioned that the full process for constitution development will involve various phases to complete, with the work plan for phase II building on the work accomplished to date (June 23, 2006), and commence the development of various components identified as essential elements of a constitution for the community, again through extensive community consultation.
 
Phase III and beyond will commence April 1, 2007, and focus on the final development of the set of laws and principles defined by and for the community that will comprise the Chippewa's of Kettle & Stony Point Community Constitution document for community ratification and implementation.
  1. To identify the essential components of a Chippewa's of Kettle & Stony Point Community Constitution that will guide the community, it's leadership, and administration into the next seven generations with the underlying principles embedded in Council's Vision of Financial Stability and Sustainability for the First Nation, and Accountability and Transparency to the community and it's members;
  2. Document and evaluate the elements the First Nation has in place as a foundation; and
  3. Develop a phased plan to develop the components that have been identified and recognized by the community as essential for a final Constitution or set of laws and principles applicable to the First Nation.
