CHIPPEWAS OF KETTLE & STONY POINT FIRST NATION
VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT
There were a total of 22 fire related calls to date in which the Kettle & Stony Point Fire Department responded to in the 2006 season.
These calls are as follows:
· Bush fires—3
· Grass fires—3
· Gas leaks—1
· C/O Alarm—4
· Structure Fire—2
· Strange Odour—1
· Stove Fire—1
· Electrical Fire—2
· Fire Alarm—2
· Chimney Fire—1
· MVC—1
The total fire related calls were down about 50% from the 2005 season, which is always the goal of the Fire Department.
This year we are pleased that we were approved for a new 96 foot tower for the fire hall which will significantly improve our communication and response time in the event of an emergency. This project started in September 2006. The department also submitted a request for funding for a new Rescue/Equipment van for the fire department, which replaces an outdated 1984 cube van. Finally, the department was able to purchase a new base station radio through Van Communications, 4 portable radios and 2 new pagers.
One new fire fighter came on board during the year. Rick Chivers is well trained in the fire fighting field and is also a member of the Northville Fire Department. This brings the total to 13 firemen for the department at this time, with a goal of 20 over the next two years.
